Planning a Zanzibar honeymoon

For a honeymoon, stay north at Kendwa or Nungwi if you want to swim at any tide, or east at Matemwe, Pongwe or Michamvi for quiet privacy. June to October and January to February give the best weather, and 7 to 10 nights is the right length.
Zanzibar is the classic finish to a Tanzanian safari and a strong standalone honeymoon. The choices that matter are the coast, the tide and whether you want a resort or a private villa.
Pick the coast first
If long swims and sunset cocktails matter, go north to Kendwa: no tidal walkout, a west facing beach and a short stroll to Nungwi if you want a night out. If you want to see almost nobody, go east to Pongwe, Matemwe or Michamvi, where the resorts are spread out and the beach is yours in the morning.
Resort or private villa
Resorts win on food variety, spa and easy tour logistics. Private villas with a chef and a pool win on privacy and cost less than people expect for two, particularly in shoulder season. We hold rates on both.
Safari plus beach
The standard shape is four nights in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro, then a direct flight from Arusha or Kilimanjaro to Zanzibar for six nights on the beach. Land in Zanzibar in the afternoon, have the transfer waiting, and keep the last night close to the airport if the return flight is early.
Honeymoon extras worth asking for
Tell us it is a honeymoon when you send the cart. Most properties add a room upgrade if available, a bed decoration, a bottle of sparkling wine or a private dinner on the beach at no charge. It only happens if it is on the booking, so it is worth the one line.
Common questions
How much does a Zanzibar honeymoon cost?
For 7 nights in a good four star beach resort, budget roughly 1,800 to 3,000 USD for two including transfers and two tours. Five star and private villa options run from 4,000 USD upward.
Which is the most romantic beach in Zanzibar?
Kendwa for sunsets and swimming, Pongwe and Michamvi for quiet. Matemwe suits couples who want the best snorkelling on their doorstep.
How many nights should a Zanzibar honeymoon be?
Seven to ten. Under five nights the travel time eats the trip, especially if you are combining it with a safari.
Do resorts offer honeymoon packages?
Most add complimentary touches rather than a formal package. Mention the honeymoon in your request and we ask every property before confirming.
Plan it while it is fresh
Add a stay, a transfer and a tour to one cart and send it as a single request. We confirm with every supplier and come back with one itinerary and one price.
